Travelling is the only thing that costs money, but makes you richer.
Who doesn’t love to travel? I am sure that most of the people, even some of you think that you need kind of super cool spaceship or to win the lottery to travel. Well, here’s the good news: what you actually need is the adventure spirit and some free time to surf the internet for best deals. I decided to share with you my secret sites that I consult when I want to travel.
Transport: If you don’t have a destination yet whichbudget web site will help you to find one. Basically you can set anywhere as destination and choose or not the exact dates. You can also look for specific trips.
Poland is connected with some low-cost companies. From Łódź you can fly to London, Dublin, Oslo and East Midlands. Ryanair is offering nice deals and it flies also from Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Lublin, Poznań, Rzeszów, Szczecin, Warsaw and Wrocław.

Wizzair is flying from Warsaw, Katowice, Gdansk, Poznan, Lublin and Wroclaw to many destinations and for pretty cheap prices.
If you are in Krakow, Easy Jet will fly you to Switzerland, UK, Germany and France.
LOT, the Polish national airline company is becoming more and more accessible. If you are lucky, you can get real bargains with them. For example, Red Alien will fly to Latvia and back for only 58 euros.
Keep in mind that low cost companies are stingy. They will offer you a good price for tickets, but when it comes to luggage or food, you always have to pay extra. Here are some smart ways to avoid this. For example, Ryanair has a generous baggage policy. You can take two pieces for free (one of ten kilos and another small shoulder bag). Wizzair will allow you to take seven kilos of luggage for free and LOT eight.
If you cannot stop crunching for two-three hours, take a sandwich with you or some snacks (it is allowed and much more cheaper than in the plane). Also, I recommend you to buy a bottle of water after passing the control line. Usually, you can get it at least half of the price they sell it in the plane.
For terrestrial travelling, use confidently Polski Bus, Bla Bla Car or hitchhiking. If you book in advance, Polski bus can be really cheap. You have free WiFi for all the rides and sometimes even cookies and juice.

Bla Bla Car is based on car sharing principle (ex. John is travelling to Krakow and has three free seat. He will post the announce to bla bla car, set the price and wait for travelers. You can check every driver’s profile and references).
Hitchhiking seems safe in Poland, although I didn’t try it yet. Asking international people that did it already, I got only positive reactions. Anyways, this summer I plan to make a hitchhiking trip to Vienna. Promise to share with you the experience.
Accommodation. While travelling, it is pretty important to decide where your face will meet the pillow. Personally, I prefer to know before the departure where this will be. A trustful reservation site is Booking. Here you can find all kind of hotels, apartments or lofts with attractive prices. Booking is offering discounts for their constant costumers.
Tip. Check the rating of the accommodation and read also what the others said about it.
Tip. Sometimes, this kind of sites have reservation fee, sometimes it’s cheaper than paying directly to hostel. Compare both prices before booking.
If you want to feel the city in an authentic way, but still have intimacy and comfort, book yourself a room or a flat via Airbnb. This is a great way to feel yourself at home while travelling. As well, don’t forget to read what others said before, but listen to your instinct too.
If you didn’t hear about Couchsurfing yet, it was about time. This miraculous website will help you to find free accommodation, while connecting with locals. Well, forget about free accommodation. This is the last benefit of Couchsurfing. Actually, what this platform offers is the chance for free spirits and travelers all over the world to meet and share their stories.

Tip. Couchsurfing is open to everybody, even for wacko’s. Check your host’s profile carefully and read also the references before entering his/her house.
Before travelling to anywhere, think a bit if you know someone in that city and try to get in contact with them. It can be a perfect occasion to find out some local secrets about the city.
Living the city. There are so many things to do and discover in every city. Make a plan for your staying. Set a list of touristic attractions that you want to see, look for places to eat or party. Check out In your pocket guide, Lonely planet or Tripadvisor. I usually get all the information I need from here. Last year I discover Use it. USE-IT stands for no-nonsense tourist info for young people, as they describe themselves. Here you can find non commercial-related tips and recommendations. The only disadvantage is that they don’t cover all the cities yet.

Tip. Free walking tour is a new concept that is gaining more and more popularity. Basically you get guidance through the city and in the end, if you liked it, you can make a small donation to your guide. Check if in the city you are planning to visit there is such tour and join it! Below there are just two of them, but feel free to discover more and to share them with us in the comments.
For Poland: Free Walking Tour
For rest of Europe: New Europe
Travelling is not about money, or at least I don’t think it should be. Travelling is a way to get out your comfort zone, face new challenges, learn and teach. Travelling is discovery!
